Saints travelled to Spurley hey on Sunday after 2 weeks without a
game with only 11 players available for the game it was always
going to be tough against a team in form. Spurley started well but
the Saints defence held well and slowly Saints made there mark on
the game and after 10 mins took the lead when Josh Black put a great
ball into the box for Josh Richmond to head past the stranded keeper
all looked well until 5 mins later Danny Gloom suffered a pulled leg
muscle and was unable to continue saints were down to 10 men. They
showed how much they have progressed by holding Spurley and at times
looking better than Spurley they all worked hard for each other half
time 1-0. With a bit of a re shuffle Saints started the second half
well putting pressure on Spurley and holding well at the back, but
as the game progressed tiredness crept in as would be expected with
a few of the players suffering cramp they held out until the 85th
min when Spurley scored the inevitable goal to square the game. then
sensing Saints were out of the game Spurley forced the Saints
defence into an error giving them a corner which they scored from on
the 89th min, a harsh goal considering how well Saints had played
with only 10 men.But Saints showed courage and strength and went
forward head held high and when Jack Draper received the ball on the
edge of the box he looked for the killer pass but no one was there
so he took it upon him self and struck a sweet shot that beat the
Spurley Keeper at the near post game over. a well deserved draw for
the Saints against all the odds.Saints manager was full of praise
for the fighting quality and never say die attitude of his team.
M.O.T.M should have gone to all the team but with a captains
performance it went to Josh Richmond.
