Winsford Junior Blues Vs Macclesfield Saints
A very damp morning in Winsford for our first game of the league
season saw the Saints take an early lead through Adam Leonard on a
heavy pitch that meant entertaining football was rare as both sides
struggled to get control of the ball. Owen Taylor was put through to
grab the second which effectively put the away side in a dominant
position which we never looked like giving up there after. When Kai
Loftus made it 3-0 just before half time and with more and more
possession been held the travelling parents could have been forgiven
in thinking there may be another double figure result in the making.
The second half was again all Saints but unfortunately chance after
chance went begging and only Adam Leonard with his second and a neat
finish from Adam Cartwright could be added to the tally. At the
other end Callum Bailey made some fine saves to keep our first clean
sheet of the season and Man of the match Tom Cawley was terrific at
right back defending as solid as ever and getting forward well to
support the midfield.
Hopefully a few lessons in regard to the finishing will have been
learned on Saturday and will be taken forward into the next few
weeks when tougher opposition will be in wait. All in all a good
start to the season saw Saints go second in the league.
