Tytherington Juniors versus Macclesfield Saints
Monday 23rd March
First Half
Saints started strongly and after defending two Tytherington corners it was Jack who had Saints first shot on goal that went just wide. Eddie defended well pushing Griff wide and thwarting his effort. James was strong in defence and headered well to pass the ball to Jack and Sam who played some great passing football. A corner from Jack was solidly saved by Matt Cross the Tytherington goalie. Matthew next had a shot at goals that went wide before the play returned to Tytherington and Douglas had two attempts on goal that went over the crossbar. Callum was excellent in defence throughout and Eddie was accurate with his passes up the wing. Ross marked his former teammate Douglas religiously. It was great to see Joseph back in goal and he was certainly on form. Sam made a fabulous cross to Matthew who sent the ball into the back of the net to open the scoring.
Half Time score 1:0
Second Half
The second half saw Saints again start the stronger side. Callum and Josh played strongly to keep possession but time and again Jack was thwarted by the offside rule. After some frantic defending by Tytherington in the box Sam took his chance and placed the ball solidly in the net. The play returned to Tytherington but they were no match for Joseph in goals and Callum, James, Eddie and Ross in defence. Alex and Tom battled as usual in midfield to set up Jack who scored to take the lead to a convincing 3:0. Tytherington were then awarded a corner despite having been offside but thankfully Joseph made a solid catch. He was well supported in the box by George. Tytherington then began to claw their way back into the game and scored to make it 3:1. Soon after Douglas scored a goal from a clearly offside position. Despite the protestations of both the Saints players, manager and their supporters the score stood at 3:2. Minutes later Tytherington scored again to even the score and they came close to taking the lead from a corner that allowed Douglas to shoot but hit the crossbar. The disappointment was clear for the Saints team who deserved to win this fixture.
Full time score 3:3
