Macclesfield Saints vs Macclesfield Tigers
Saturday 14th March
First Half
Saints took immediate possession of the ball and dominated the play for the majority of the first half. On a very blustery day we were certainly wind assisted in the first 30 minutes. Chances came thick and fast as Tom set up Jack then Ross crossed to James but neither reached the net. Great skill by George with a nifty back heel kept the ball in play but Tigers took possession and pushed forward, but not for long. A skilful corner from Jack connected with Jamie who opened the scoring. Alex in goal made two solid catches. The Tigers goalie was then tempted out of goal leaving the way clear for Jack to score making it 2:0. Tom and Sam played great for the whole match and set Jamie up with another chance for a header that went over the crossbar. Tigers No 8 then had a very near miss on goal. Eddie made a great pass to Jack who crossed to Sam to score the third goal for Saints. Buoyed on by their success Jack and Tom then made it 4 and 5. It would have been 6 but for a great save by the Tigers goalie.
Half Time Score 5:0
Second Half
Saints looked complacent in the early stages of the second half, this time of course playing against the wind. James made a great clearance thwarting an early Tiger run. However the resulting corner allowed Tigers to score. This was followed by another two goals in quick succession despite great play by George , Eddie and Josh. Tigers were closing the gap, and clawed back to 5:4 from another corner. Saints then picked up their game and Ross battled hard in defence to ward off an equaliser. Saints failed to score from three corner kicks but managed to maintain possession. In the closing minutes Tigers had a very near miss. The full time score rewarded the stronger team.
Full time score 5:4
