Kingsmead v Macc Saints

Saturday 4th October

Kingsmead vs Macc Saints

First Half

If ever a game suited the cliché “it was a game of two halves” then this was the one. During the first half, Saints literally had an uphill struggle on the slightly slanting pitch. In the opening minutes Macc Saints started well. Tom took an early corner and Jack attempted to score, narrowly missing.  The onslaught from Kingsmead  began.  Joseph  was kept busy and as usual did us proud in goals. On one occasion  he found himself out of goal but Mike stepped in clearing a Kingsmead shot over the top of the net.  After two further solid clearances from Mike, Kingsmead opened  the scoring with an excellent goal headered in. Saints showed some good individual skill in the first half,  but the boys couldn’t connect enough of the play to make it count. Calum headered an excellent ball to Jack who passed to Alex who’s shot  narrowly missed the goal. Throughout the first half Kingsmead seemed hungrier for the ball and this was reflected in the half-time score of 5:0!!

Second Half

Despite the disappointment of the first half score-line , Macc Saints managed to rally themselves for the second half  and the boys started to pass better. Very quickly Tom started the comeback with a fabulous goal. Jack nearly made it two but ran out of running space. Unfortunately Kingsmead, determined to maintain their lead made it no 6. It would have been 7 without some excellent defending by Al.  Macc Saints regained control and a corner from Jack connected with James who calmly controlled the ball and scored a fabulous goal. Moments later, Matthew had a shot on goal which frustratingly missed by inches.  Next it was Alex’s turn, after a great pass from Jack. To the delight of the Saints spectators he got it in the back of the net, the score-line now a much more respectable 6:3. Once again Kingsmead responded with another goal , their initial attempt saved by Joseph ,grounding him, but Kingsmead kept up the attack by shooting again and scoring. Fired up by the spectator support, Jack  scored two excellent goals in quick succession but Kingsmead responded again by scoring their eighth. Unfortunately the Saints fight-back ran out of time and the final score was 8:5 to Kingsmead.
