Macclesfield Saints versus Grappenhall

Saturday 28th March

First Half

Grappenhall started strongly and within the first ten minutes had four attempts on goal despite Callum, James, Eddie and Ross’s efforts in defence. Thankfully Joseph is back to full fitness and made some excellent saves. Tom and Sam played some excellent passing football but Jack’s runs were curtailed by the Grappenhall defenders. Grappenhall took a fabulous corner kick to connect in the box to score, 1:0. Mike was excellent in midfield and passed skilfully to Jack whose shot was held by the keeper. Saints then scored from a corner that allowed Sam to find the net. Grappenhall then regained posession, there was a tense moment when Eddie headed the ball from a Grappenhall corner. From the sideline it looked like a spectacular own goal but in fact the ball had gone over the crossbar! Joseph kept his cool despite Grappenhall’s relentless attack to maintain the scoreline at 1:1 into half time.

Second Half

In the second half Grappenhall dominated the play.  Al, Jamie and Matthew were repeatedly tested in midfield. After a Grappenhall corner kick George got the ball away, unfortunately it was picked up by Grappenhall’s No 9 who scored a fantastic goal that was unstoppable. It took 3 Saints defenders to send Grappenhall’s next effort wide of the goal but their attack continued and Grappenhall scored  3rd and 4th goals in quick succession. Saints then picked up their play with some notable efforts from James, Mike, Josh, Callum and Joseph, preventing Grappenhall from extending their lead further.

Full Time Score 4:1 to Grappenhall.

Man of the Match – to be announced at training along with Monday’s POM.
