Macclesfield Saints vs Congleton Rovers

First Half

In drizzly and windy conditions Saints started well in this game. Saints again dominated the play in the first half with some great early attempts on goal by Sam and Jack. James defended well and a great through ball from Mike reached Jack who narrowly missed but the ball deflected off the post to be picked up by Sam who tried again to score but just missed. Eddie had a great match with some good long solid passes. Callum also played well and deflected a Congleton goal attempt from inside the box. Congleton had one further attempt on goal in the first half which Matthew flicked away skilfully with his right hand. Saints then regained the ball and Jack had a free run from the half way line, unfortunately his goal shot went over the crossbar. Having had many chances in the first half Saints were understandably frustrated to reach half time 0:0

Second Half

The second half saw Congleton Rovers step up their play. Despite this Tom had an early shot on goal but missed. This was soon followed by a great pass from Jack to Sam who scored for Saints. Congleton then had two corners in quick succession. The first was defended well by Callum but the second led to a Congleton goal high into the net despite Mathew’s best efforts. It looked as if Congleton would quickly score again as they made a solo run towards the box. Thankfully Ross seemed to come from nowhere to make a fabulous tackle to end their attack. Rhys and Tom were impressive throughout and Al had some great touches in the second half. Both sides played well in the second -half and the final score was 1:1

Full Time Score 1:1

Man of the Match - Callum
